Sad news for those who want to study abroad.Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) are part of the exams one is required to take to be admitted into some Universities abroad. Whilst TOEFL basically tries to affirm you have a good command of English as someone coming from a country where English is a second language, GRE is a test for those intending to do their Masters and other graduate courses. Education Testing Services (ETS), the independent body responsible for organising the exams, have suspended the two of them from being written in Nigeria “due to security concerns.”
In a statement issued on November 7, published on their website, ETS broke the news that both examinations have been suspended indefinitely in Nigeria.
See the statement below:
“Due to security concerns in Nigeria, GRE® and TOEFL® testing in the country has been suspended for an indefinite period. Candidates who have appointments to take the TOEFL or GRE Tests will be contacted by ETS to process a refund.”
They didn’t state the reason for the suspension, and it is indefinite for now. My advise here is that if you are intending to study in the US or other English speaking countries, find an alternative or better still enroll in any other close by African country.
